The Reality and Possibility of Dreams...

Inception  (PG-13)
Written and Directed by Christopher Nolan and Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Cillian Murphy, Marion Cotillard, and Michael Caine

Every once in a while, there comes a film that surprises you.  Before you see it, you make a decision about it that completely contradicts the truth of what it really is.  It is pre-judged and it is set aside as something not so interesting.

This was one of those films.

I made a snap judgement.  I knew it looked good and I knew I'd want to see it (if only for the effects and fun).  But, I made a mistake.  I overheard someone compare it to 'The Matrix' and calling it a "rip off", they didn't like it.  Well, I told myself that was all right (I mean, it happens all the time, right?).  When there are movies that bring something new and exciting to the table, they are bound to be copied and over used in Hollywood.  That's the business, unfortunately.

Let me be clear here, whoever said that this movie was a "rip off" was incorrect and I was wrong to take that opinion as my own. This film is NOT 'The Matrix'.  It is fully sufficient of standing on its own merit.  And deservedly so.  It is a beautifully written original story, layered with great characters and has Nolan's intricately detailed imprint all over it.

The film deals with creating or taking ideas from the dreams of others.  It is a strong reminder of the possibility and strength of dreams and the amazing things that come from them.

Now, I could talk about more of the story and some of the plot intricacies that stood out to me, but I'm not going to.  This was one of the few movies that I couldn't really have a conversation about right after seeing it.  And, it's not out of deep emotion but out of mere process.  I had to really stay in tune to keep things straight and ideas present.

It is a film that is extremely well thought out and executed.  It is a cerebral ride through thoughts, ideas, and ultimately our deepest secrets.

What we carry in our sub conscience is ours and ours alone.  We are responsible for giving power and life to our greatest ideas/ dreams just as we are responsible for denying the darkness a freedom that benefits no one.

We are called to be artists, dreamers, and creators of amazing and incredible things.  I dare myself to keep dreaming...

...and I dare you too.

Enjoy.
