The Darkening of the Light

I started listening to Concrete Blonde in high school. I'm not sure how they were introduced to me or how I heard of them, but I remember thier sound. I was drawn to it. It was something I hadn't quite heard before-- music so beautifully touched with something slightly haunted; broken. Thier lyrics were (are) the perfect marriage of poetry and heartache; darkness with the hope for light. I immediately felt connected. 


After many years, I have recently reconnected with them. They still hold to them a beautiful darkness that holds on to beauty, singing it out with passionate prose. 


I have an eclectic taste in music that I'm thankful for. Like film and all things creative, music has a truth that connects us to the thoughts and feelings that we just can't put the words to sometimes. It takes us to the places we shouldn't come to fear.

    How did I not you were a Concrete Blonde fan, Brice? I, too, have been a fan of theirs since high school.

    I totally agree with your opinion. My favorite quotes from Johnette's (songwriter, lead vocals and bassist) are:

    From "Song for Kim" from the album, "True:"[Life] "It may be all I have, but it's mine, it's mine."

    From "Take Me Home" from the album, "Group Therapy:" "Every minute, every hour is another chance to change./ Life is beautiful and terrible and strange."
