Directed by Guy Ritchie and Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams
Another "re-invention/ re-imagining" done just right.
Guy Ritchie is the right Director to pull the old name of Sherlock Holmes out of the dull and tired heap of franchise death. He stylistically and bravely reintroduces a character well known by most and gives him new life with deep respect for that of the old.
The casting of Robert Downey, Jr. is nothing short of sheer genius as the man's career has found new ground and new respect. Thank you, Robert for getting yourself straight and back on track with your gift and talent.
I loved this movie. I saw it the day after Christmas and was utterly surprised at how the filmmakers were able to stay true to the heart and soul of the character and the movies while still breaking new ground with it's amazing style and wonderful writing.
Sherlock Holmes as a character is complex, genius, and fallible. His mind knows no limits and that is both a blessing and a curse. He need Watson to balance him out as Watson needs Holmes to do the same. Separate they are incomplete and together they are one true friendship.
This is a smart, witty, thrill-filled ride.
Enjoy.
