Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in realD 3D
Directed by John Lasseter and Starring the voice talents of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and many more
Ok, first off, I'm not an animated film fanatic. I've only written two blogs about movies and they are both about animated features. It's pure chance, I promise. But, the truth is this-- I do love them. I think they are great entertainment for everyone. The features released by Pixar, Dreamworks, and even Disney (without Pixar) are well thought out, humorous, and yes, even deeply emotional. Some of my personal favorites are "The Incredibles", "Monsters Vs. Aliens", "Up", and "Bolt". Ok, I really do like every one I've seen, but this isn't really about animated CG movies... this is about 3...D...
If you have not yet seen any movie that has been released in the most recent 3D format (realD), you are in for a surprise. This is not your creepy older uncle's blue/red bad 3D movie (Jaws 3, Friday the 13th 3, and whatever else suffered from the 80's bandwagon). NO! This is utterly amazing.
The first one I saw was "Monsters Vs. Aliens" and from the first moment (which was actually a trailer for "Up" in 3D), I was hooked. It is amazing. It's like looking into the window of another completely tangible "life". So, I've seen every 3D movie that has been in theaters since (with the exception of "G-Force"-- that's a little too far over the edge for me personally). And, I will make it a point to see every 3D movie that comes out from now on. Amazing.
I'm really looking forward to James Cameron's live action/CG epic "Avatar" in 3D. The trailer looks pretty cool.
Anyway, I'm off track... Toy Story and Toy Story 2. Great movies on their own. I was worried that since they weren't released (or made for) as 3D movies, that something would be missing. It wasn't at all. It looked fantastic. Maybe they did have the foresight to think about this 3D rerelease (I wouldn't put it past them) and after reading about this new 3D format, it seems to be a fairly simple process to do.
It was a pleasure to see them again (for the first time...lol). I love the simplicity of the stories and the complexity of how they tell them.
Keep. Them. Coming.
I'm 36 years old. I love 3D. I will pay to see more.
And you should, too (at least once)...
Enjoy.
