Paranormal Activity surrounds us...

Paranormal Activity (R)
Directed by Oren Peli and Starring Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat

The independent phenomenon has captured America by the hairs on the back of its neck.  Never before has such a low budget film created such a buzz and fought its way into theaters. It has already earned millions and millions of box-office dollars and with a budget of only $15,000, has paid for itself many times over.

So, is it worth it?

Well, as a filmmaker, I completely respect what was accomplished with this project. It was well done for the budget it had and surpassed many other films of its kind. It is bold and yes, it works.
As a movie watcher, I wasn't as impressed. The build up was slow. I found myself wanting so much more to happen (and, honestly, it never did). It was a long wait for the payoff that is the last fifteen minutes or so. It is a twist ending. It is a good ending. But, I could see it coming from a mile away.

I was hoping to be completely freaked out and instead, I was mildly entertained.  I'm very glad for its success. There's something about the underdog film that I appreciate and root for. I hope they are thankful and I hope they do more.

Enjoy.
